Spinning and Checking a golf Ball on the green?
I want to know if anyone has a link to a video that shows me how to spin and/or check a golf ball. Ive seen a few but most dont show the results on the green, they just show how to hit it.
Additional question: Whats the closest you can be to the green to even attempt to spin/check a ball. Ive seen people do it as close as 20 ft off the green with no effort at all. I know you have to hit with speed to generate enough spin so how do people do it so close to the green?
ok, to get spin or check, you will need to be reasonably far out.
if you put the ball at the back of your stance and open the face of the club slightly and hit it cleanly you should be alright.
you have to use a fresh, new, clean grooved club, or all will be optimum condition for spin
you also need a nice clean lie so the grooves have nice contact with the ball
you also need a high spinning 3 piece ball.
if you do all of these things, you should be able to rip it back

also, just a bit of advice, dont use the shot unless the pin is tucked away somewhere, or you really need to show off to your friends. if you use it any other time, other than times you need to use it, it will add strokes to your game. i remember when i first could do it, i got carried away and did it at any possible opportunity and i was landing it at the pin and spinning it back off the green. sure it looked good, but is it helpful? no.
