Getting Oil in Carb. on Pushmowers
I own a Lawnmower Shop and have a few in there that are Killing Me. All are Murry Pushmowers with “lil’ Briggs in them. The prob. is that they are getting oil in the Carb. very bad. All have Good Comp. so rings are OK, I’ve cleaned out and insp. the Valve Covers very well. I’ve even pulled Valve Covers off others and had the same prob., then put Cover Back on mower they came off of and they did good. So, I don’t think it’s in the breather in the Valve Cover, nor, Rings and Valves. They do this with Old Air Filters, New ones, even Without one. They start Great, run for about 30 Seconds then flood the carb with oil. I’ve even tried diff. Wt. oil. 10W, 30W, 40W, etc. Oil Drain hole under Springs is free and clear on all of them, Valve Guides are also good.
They are also all Flatheads, so it’s Not a blown head gasket into the pushrod hole. Am I OVER THINKING and getting LOST here?

Pull the breather again. Look very carefully at the two very small holes on the inside. They are drain holes for residual oil to drain back out of the breather. Make sure the little holes are on the bottom.
If nothing else, replace the breathers and try it again.
